ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to carry out qualitative and quantitative studies with species of the Cerambycidae, Bostrichidae, and Curculionidae families (Scolytinae and Platypodinae) in a plantation of balsa wood (Ochroma pyramidale), in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil, to contribute to the entomological knowledge about the coleoborer species that occur associated with this forest tree. The research was carried out at Fazenda Campina, located at the municipality of Nossa Senhora do Livramento - MT, from July 2015 to June 2016. Ten Escolitídeo/Curitiba modified impact traps were used in biweekly collections, with 3,244 individuals being collected, distributed in 42 species, with Cerambycidae being the most diversified group, with 20 (47.62%) species and Scolytinae (Curculionidae) with 2,681 specimens (82.64%) the most abundant one. Hypothenemus eruditus (Scolytinae) was the predominant species with 1,466 collected individuals, being the only one that occurred as a super-dominant, super-abundant, widespread, and constant species. Chlorida festiva (Cerambycidae), Platypus linearis (Platypodinae), Cryptocarenus diadematus, Cryptocarenus heveae, Cryptocarenus seriatus, and Xyleborus affinis (Scolytinae) were dominant, very abundant, very frequent, and constant species. The species of the Bostrichidae and Curculionidae families were more frequent in the dry season, while the species of the Cerambycidae family were more common in the rainy months. Cryptocarenus heveae, Cryptocarenus seriatus, and Cryptocarenus diadematus showed a significant correlation with relative humidity and the latter with rainfall. The other species analyzed did not show a strong correlation with any climatic element.

RESUMEN El objetivo de este trabajo fue realizar estudios cualitativos y cuantitativos con especies de las familias Cerambycidae, Bostrichidae y Curculionidae (Scolytinae y Platypodinae), en una plantación de madera de balsa (Ochroma pyramidale) en el estado de Mato Grosso, con el objetivo de contribuir al conocimiento entomológico de las especies de coleobrocas que se presentan asociadas a esta especie forestal. La investigación se llevó a cabo en la localidad de Fazenda Campina, ubicada en el municipio de Nossa Senhora do Livramento - MT, de julio de 2015 a junio de 2016. Se utilizaron diez trampas Scolito-Curitiba modificadas en las colectas quincenales. Se recolectaron 3.244 individuos, distribuidos en 42 especies, siendo Cerambycidae la familia diversificada con 20 especies (47,62%) y Scolytinae (Curculionidae) con 2.681 (82,64%), la más abundante en individuos recolectados. Hypothenemus eruditus (Scolytinae) presentó 1.466 (45,19%) predominó en número de individuos colectados, siendo la única especie que se mostró como superdominante, superabundante, superfrecuente y constante. Chlorida festiva (Cerambycidae), Platypus linearis (Platypodinae), Cryptocarenus diadematus, Cryptocarenus heveae, Cryptocarenus seriatus y Xyleborus affinis (Scolytinae) fueron dominantes, muy abundantes, muy frecuentes y constantes. Las especies de las familias Bostrichidae y Curculionidae fueron más representativas en los meses del período seco, mientras que las especies de la familia Cerambycidae fueron más importantes en los meses lluviosos. Cryptocarenus heveae, Cryptocarenus seriatus y Cryptocarenus diadematus mostraron una correlación significativamente más considerable con la humedad relativa, y esta última también con la lluvia. Las otras especies analizadas no mostraron una notable correlación con ningún elemento climático.

ABSTRACT Trap models for Scolytinae generally use attractive bait-holders and a collector with ethanol to store the insects. The aim of this paper was verify if the ethanol in the container insect collector can be used as an attractive substance, without need of an extra compartment. The study was carried out in Cuiabá, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, between June 2009 and May 2010 in stands of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis and native cerrado. Eight escolitídeo-curitiba model traps were installed in each environment, four with 96% ethanol bait holders and the others without attractive. In all traps 70% ethanol was used in the insect collecting container. In the bait traps 2,246 insects and 2100 insects were collected in the no bait, totaling 4,436 insects distributed in 13 genus and 24 species. The use of traps with ethanol baits had no significant effect on insect collection during the evaluated period and regardless of the environments.

RESUMEN Los modelos de trampa para insectos, subfamilia Scolytinae, generalmente usan portadores de cebo atrayentes y un receptor de etanol para conservar los insectos. El objetivo de esta investigación fue verificar si el etanol en el contenedor de recolección de insectos es eficiente como un atractivo sin la necesidad de un compartimiento adicional. El estudio se llevó a cabo en el municipio de Cuiabá, provincia de Mato Grosso, de junio de 2009 a mayo de 2010 en Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis en el área remanente del bioma de Cerrado. Se usaron ocho trampas de modelo escolítido-curitiba en cada ambiente, cuatro con soportes de cebo conteniendo 96% de etanol y los demás exentos de atrayente. En todas las trampas se usó etanol al 70% en el recipiente colector. Se recolectó un total de 4.346 insectos, distribuidos en 13 géneros y 24 especies, con 2.246 individuos recolectados en trampas que contenían cebo y 2.100 en trampas sin cebo. El uso de etanol en el portador de cebo no tuvo un efecto significativo en la recolección de insectos, independientemente de los ambientes.

ABSTRACT A survey of Scolytinae was carried out in native vegetation in the city of Campo Verde, Mato Grosso, by using 60 ethanolic traps, distributed in six treatments (T) and ten repetitions. With the exception of T4, alcohol was placed in the collection vial. In T1 (control) water, salt and neutral detergent were used; T2 = 25% alcohol; T3 = 50% alcohol; T4 (traps with 96% ethanol in the hose and 70% in the collection flask); T5 = alcohol 75% and T6 = alcohol 96%. There were 13 genera, 31 species and 7,469 individuals. Hypothenemus eruditus, Xyleborus affinis and Sampsonius dampfi were the most common. Population peaks were more frequent in the dry months of the year.

RESUMEN Se realizó un levantamiento de Scolytinae en vegetación nativa, en el municipio de Campo Verde, Mato Grosso, utilizando 60 trampas etanólicas, distribuidas en seis tratamientos (T) y diez repeticiones. Con excepción de T4, el alcohol se colocó en el frasco colector. En el T1 (Testigo) se utilizó agua, sal y detergente neutro; T2 = alcohol 25%; T3 = alcohol 50%; T4 (trampas con etanol a 96% en la manguera y 70% en el frasco colector); T5 = alcohol 75% y T6 = alcohol 96%. Se produjeron 13 géneros, 31 especies y 7.469 individuos. Hypothenemus eruditus, Xyleborus affinis y Sampsonius dampfi fueron las más expresivas. Los picos poblacionales fueron más frecuentes en los meses secos del año.

ABSTRACT The pink hibiscus mealybug, Maconellicoccus hirsutus Green (Hemiptera, Pseudococcidae) is registered for the first time in teak forest stands, Tectona grandis, in the municipality of São José de Quatro Marcos, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Information on the geographical distribution, biology, damage and management of this pest is provided.

Este trabalho teve por objetivo estudar a distribuição sazonal de Heterotermes tenuis (Hagen), utilizando armadilhas celulósicas instaladas ao nível do solo, 50, 100 e 150 cm de profundidades. As coletas ocorreram quinzenalmente por um período de 12 meses no município de Cuiabá-MT, em plantios de Eucalyptus spp. Os dados foram analisados por meio do modelo estatístico de Modelo Inflacionados de Zeros (ZIP). No total foram coletados 266.918 indivíduos, sendo que a maior média obtida foi nas armadilhas instaladas a 100 cm de profundidade. Analisando os ambientes amostrados, o clone MG1277 e a espécie Eucalyptus camaldulensis apresentaram maior e menor quantidade de térmites coletados nas armadilhas, respectivamente. O aumento da quantidade de indivíduos está relacionado ao fator precipitação pluviométrica, porém foi registrado um maior número de indivíduos durante o período de estiagem devido às condições favoráveis oferecidas dentro das armadilhas celulósicas, tais como alimento, temperatura e umidade.

This work aimed to study the sazonal distribution of Heterotermes tenuis (Hagen) using cellulosic traps installed at the soil level; 1,64 ft; 3,28 ft and 4,92 ft of depths. Sampling occurred every two weeks for a period of 12 months in Cuiabá-MT in Eucalyptus spp plantations. Data were analyzed using the Inflated Poisson Zeros (PIZ) statistical model. In total 266,918 individuals were collected, and the higher average was in traps at 3,28 ft depth. The analysis of sampled sites revealed MG1277 clone and the specie Eucalyptus camaldulensis with the highest and lowest amount of termites collected in traps, respectively. The increased number of individuals is related to the rainfall factor, but a greater number of individuals during the dry season was recorded due to the favorable conditions offered within the cellulosic traps such as food, temperature and humidity.

Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar as espécies de formigas que ocorrem em áreas degradadas pela mineração de diamantes, definindo as espécies bioindicadoras desta degradação. O estudo realizado entre junho de 2010 e abril de 2011, bimestralmente, em Poxoréu - MT, amostrou quatro ambientes: A1 – área degradada pela mineração; A2 – área com vegetação de cerrado antropizado recentemente; A3 – vegetação antropizada há cerca de 30 anos; A4 – área de cerrado preservado. Em cada ambiente, foram instaladas 11 armadilhas pitfall, equidistantes 15 metros, para a coleta de formigas durante 24 horas. Os indivíduos coletados foram levados ao Laboratório de Proteção Florestal/FENF/UFMT e triados para posterior identificação. As espécies bioindicadoras foram indicadas por meio de análises faunísticas. As espécies Camponotus (Myrmaphaenus) sp.1 e Forelius brasiliensis podem ser consideradas bioindicadoras de degradação ambiental na área de garimpo de diamantes e antropização, enquanto Camponotus atriceps, Pachycondyla crassinoda e Paraponera clavata podem ser consideradas bioindicadoras de cerrado preservado.

This work aimed to evaluate the ant species occurring in an area degraded by diamond mining, defining the bioindicators of this degradation. The present study was conducted bimonthly in the municipality of Poxoréu, Mato Grosso state, between June 2010 and April 2011. Four environments were sampled: A1 - area degraded by mining, A2 - area of Cerrado vegetation with recent anthropic activities, A3 - area of Cerrado disturbed approximately 30 years ago, and A4 - area of preserved Cerrado. In each environment, 11 pitfall traps, equidistant 15 meters, were installed to collect ants for 24 hours. The individuals were taken to the Laboratory of Forest Protection/FENF/UFMT and screened for later identification. The bioindicator species were indicated by faunal analysis. The ant species Camponotus (Myrmaphaenus) sp.1 and Forelius brasiliensis can be considered bioindicators of environmental degradation in the areas of diamond mining and human disturbance, while the species Camponotus atriceps, Pachycondyla crassinoda and Paraponera clavata can be considered bioindicators in the preserved Cerrado area.

Neste trabalho, estudou-se a dinâmica populacional de Glycaspis brimblecombei e seus inimigos naturais em diversos hospedeiros de Eucalyptus spp., na Fazenda Jardim, no município de Cuiabá-MT, no período de um ano. As coletas foram realizadas com armadilhas adesivas de coloração amarela nas folhas e nos ramos das plantas, em cinco talhões. Determinou-se a flutuação populacional da praga e dos seus inimigos naturais, correlacionando-se com variáveis meteorológicas. A flutuação populacional de G. brimblecombei apresentou maior ocorrência de indivíduos no período da seca, com correlação diretamente proporcional à temperatura máxima e inversamente proporcional à umidade relativa do ar, com maiores quantidades de indivíduos nos meses de agosto e setembro de 2008. Psyllaephagus bliteus e outros inimigos naturais não apresentaram correlação com as variáveis meteorológicas. A espécie E. camaldulensis e o clone MG1277 favoreceram o aumento da população de G. brimblecombei, sendo o Clone GG100 o hospedeiro menos favorável ao aumento da população.

This study presents a one-year investigation on the population dynamics of Glycaspis brimblecombei and their natural enemies in several hosts of Eucalyptus spp. in a farm in the municipality of Cuiaba, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Collection was performed by yellow sticky traps and on the leaves and stems of plants in five plots. The population fluctuation of the pest and its natural enemies were determined in correlation with meteorological parameters. The population fluctuation of Glycaspis brimblecombei presented greater occurrence in the dry season, in direct correlation with the maximum temperature and inversely proportional to the relative humidity, showing greater amount of individuals in August and September 2008. Psyllaephagus bliteus and other natural enemies founded in the 'Jardim' farm were not correlated with meteorological parameters. The species E. camaldulensis and the Clone MG1277 favored the population increase of G. brimblecombei, while the Clone GG100 was the least favorable host for the population increase of the pest.

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o desenvolvimento in vitro de Leucoagaricus gongylophorus, fungo simbionte de Atta sexdens rubropilosa, em meio de cultura acrescido com extratos de 24 espécies vegetais. O fungo foi inoculado no meio BDA, acrescido com os extratos vegetais, além de quatro controles, em placas de Petri. As placas foram mantidas em câmaras climatizadas à temperatura de 25±1°C no escuro, por um período de 42 dias. O crescimento do fungo foi avaliado semanalmente através do diâmetro da colônia. Os resultados mostraram que o fungo simbionte dessas formigas apresenta um crescimento diferenciado em relação aos extratos fornecidos nas placas, sendo que o meio acrescido com os extratos de arica (Physocalymma scaberrimum), cerejeira (Amburana acreana), cedro (Cedrela fissilis), timbó (Magonia pubescens), leucena (Leucaena leucocephala) e mogno (Swietenia macrophylla) prejudicaram o desenvolvimento. No entanto, os extratos de genipapo (Genipa americana), seringueira (Heveaa brasiliensis), ingá (Inga edulis) e cambará (Vochysia divergens) apresentaram melhores condições de desenvolvimento para o fungo simbionte.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro development of Leucoagaricus gongylophorus, the symbiotic fungus of Atta sexdens rubropilosa in culture medium added with extracts of 24 plant species. The fungus was inoculated in PDA added with vegetables extracts and four controls, in Petri dishes. The dishes were maintained in climate chambers at temperature of 25±1°C in the dark, to period of 42 days. The fungal growth was evaluated weekly by diameter of the colony. The results showed that the symbiotic fungus of these ants has differentiated growth when compared to the extracts provided in the dishes, and the medium supplemented with extracts of aricá (Physocalymma scaberrimum), cerejeira (Amburana acreana), cedro (Cedrela fissilis), timbó (Magonia pubescens), leucena (Leucaena leucocephala) e mogno (Swietenia macrophylla) hampered the development, however the extracts of genipapo (Genipa americana), seringueira (Hevea brasiliensis), ingá (Inga edulis) e cambará (Vochysia divergens) had better conditions for the development of the symbiotic fungus.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to collect, identify and quantify species of termite in three savanna areas submitted to different fire activities in different seasons. The study was carried out in Cuiaba, State of Mato Grosso, between May 2004 and March 2005. Samples were collected from three different areas submitted to fire: area 1 - 1 year without fire occurrence; area 2-10 years without fire occurrence; area 3-17 years without occurrence fire. Twenty Termitrap model traps were used per area. The traps were installed in cross form, staying buried in the soil for 15 days at each collection period. The samples were transported to the laboratory where they were separated, quantified and conditioned in alcohol 70% for identification. The collection resulted in 167.316 individuals of 13 species. Heterotermes tenuis was the most quantitatively representative species in the studied areas. The termites showed significant preference for area 2-10 years without fire occurrence. The collection period in the beginning of the rain season yielded a significantly greater amount of individuals, but fewer species.

RESUMO O trabalho teve como objetivos coletar, identificar e quantificar as espécies de cupins que ocorrem em três áreas de savana submetidas à ação do fogo em diferentes épocas. O estudo foi realizado no município de Cuiabá, estado de Mato Grosso, no período de maio de 2004 a março de 2005. Foram amostradas três áreas distintas quanto à ação do fogo: área 1 - um ano sem ocorrência de fogo; área 2-10 anos sem ocorrência de fogo; área 3-17 anos sem a ocorrência de fogo. Foram utilizadas 20 armadilhas por área, modelo Termitrap. As armadilhas foram dispostas em forma de cruz, permanecendo enterradas no solo por 15 dias a cada período de coleta. As amostras foram levadas ao laboratório, onde foram triadas, quantificadas e acondicionadas em álcool 70%, para identificação. Foram coletados 167.316 indivíduos, distribuídos em 13 espécies, sendo a espécie Heterotermes tenuis a mais representativa quantitativamente nas áreas estudadas. Os cupins apresentaram preferência significativa pela área com 10 anos sem a ausência de fogo e o período de coleta no início das chuvas foi significativamente maior em quantidade de indivíduos, porém com menor quantidade de espécies.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this work was to analyze the occurrence of the Bostrichinae, Platypodinae and Scolytinae subfamilies in the planting of Eucalyptus camaldulensis in Cuiaba, State of Mato Grosso, in the dry and rain seasons. The collections were performed fortnightly between April 2008 and March 2009, with the use of six ethanolic traps. Qualitative and quantitative studies were carried out concerning population fluctuation, frequency, constancy, abundance, dominance and diversity. Twenty-six species were found, with the Scolytinae subfamily yielding the largest amount of species and individuals in both periods. Hypothenemus eruditus and Xyleborus affinis in the dry season and Xyleborus ferrugineus in the rain season were the most quantitatively representative species.

RESUMO Este trabalho teve por objetivo analisar a ocorrência das subfamílias Bostrichinae, Platypodinae e Scolytinae em reflorestamento de Eucalyptus camaldulensis, no município de Cuiabá, Estado de Mato Grosso, nos períodos de estiagem e de chuva. As coletas foram realizadas quinzenalmente entre os meses de abril de 2008 e março de 2009, com o uso de seis armadilhas etanólicas. Foram realizados estudos qualitativos e quantitativos, entre os quais: flutuação populacional, frequência, constância, abundância, dominância e diversidade. Constatou-se a ocorrência de 26 espécies, sendo a subfamília Scolytinae a que obteve maior número de espécies e de indivíduos, em ambos os períodos. As espécies Hypothenemus eruditus e Xyleborus affinis, nos meses de estiagem, e Xyleborus ferrugineus, no período de chuva, foram quantitativamente as mais representativas.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to analyze the lumber commercialization of tropical forest native tree species in the State of Mato Grosso from 2004 to 2009, through the classification of the “Planning Regions” and municipalities’ suppliers of wood. The data were collected at the checking station of the Institute for Agricultural Defense (INDEA/MT), in the industrial district of Cuiaba, State of Mato Grosso. All trucks which passed through the checkpoint transporting wood were inspected. It was possible to identify the wood municipalities’ suppliers and the transported volume through wood load documents such as fiscal receipts and forest guide forms. It was observed that, in the analyzed period, the wood marketing presented the rate increased over the years, but with decreasing annual rates. Out of the 141 municipalities, 81 (54.7%) were identified as origin sources of the commercialized wood. The Planning Regions XII, I, II, X and XI, were the ones with the greatest contribution (92.7%) to the total wood volume commercialized in the analyzed period.

RESUMO O estudo teve como objetivo analisar a comercialização de madeira serrada de espécies nativas do Estado de Mato Grosso, no período de 2004 a 2009, obtendo a classificação das Regiões de Planejamento (RPs) e dos municípios fornecedores de madeira. Os dados foram coletados no posto de fiscalização do Instituto de Defesa Agropecuária do Estado de Mato Grosso (INDEA/ MT), no distrito industrial do município de Cuiabá, onde todos os caminhões que passaram pelo posto transportando madeira foram vistoriados. Por meio da nota fiscal e da guia florestal, foram identificados os municípios fornecedores da madeira e a quantidade transportada. Foi observado que a comercialização de madeira durante o período avaliado apresentou taxa crescente ao decorrer dos anos, porém com taxas decrescentes anuais. Dos 141 municípios do Estado, 81 deles (54,7%) participaram como fonte de origem da madeira comercializada, nos quais as RPs XII (Centro-Norte), I (Noroeste I), II (Norte), X (Centro) e XI (Noroeste II) foram as que mais forneceram madeira, respondendo por 92,7% do volume total comercializado durante o período avaliado.

A fragmentação do ambiente é intensa na amazônia matogrossense e é esperado como consequência, além do desaparecimento da vegetação original, que a flora dos fragmentos seja transicional, com elementos de floresta amazônica e de cerrado e que já apresentem elevada presença de famílias e espécies pioneiras. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a composição florística e obter parâmetros fitossociológicos de componentes arbóreos presentes em um fragmento urbano no município de Sinop, Mato Grosso com vistas a confirmar sua classificação como vegetação de transição e detectar indícios de perturbação pela fragmentação. A vegetação foi amostrada pela instalação de 25 parcelas permanentes de 20 x 20m, onde foram amostrados os indivíduos com CAP igual ou superior a 15 cm à altura de 1,30m do solo. A densidade total da área foi de 1555 ind./ha, distribuídos em 37 famílias botânicas, 81 gêneros e 113 espécies. A família mais representativa foi Leguminosae com 14 espécies. As espécies que mais contribuíram em abundância e apresentaram maior frequência foram: Cecropia sciadophylla, Cecropia sp., Bellucia grossularioides e Vismia guianensis. O índice de Shannon (H') foi de 3,55, considerado alto para uma floresta de transição. A equabilidade de Pielou foi de 0,75, sugerindo grande dominância de poucas espécies. As espécies que mais se destacaram em ordem decrescente de VI (%) foram Cecropia sp., Bellucia grossularioides, Qualea ingens, Cecropia sciadophylla, Vismia guianensis, Miconia prasina, Trattinickia burserifolia, Unonopsis guatterioides e Schefflera vinosa. O remanescente apresenta uma flora mista amazônica e de cerrado, confirmando ser ecótono e a abundância de pioneiras sugere distúrbios. Esta floresta protege espécies madeireiras e frutíferas com grande potencial para uso múltiplo, podendo ser um espaço educativo com vistas a conservação e manejo sustentável.

Fragmentation is intense in Amazon forest especially in Mato Grosso State. Loss of original vegetation is expected along with a transitional flora in such fragments, having elements of rainforest and Cerrado vegetation with abundant pioneer species. Goal of this work was to evaluate the floristic composition and phytosociology of the arboreal vegetation of an urban forest fragment in Sinop, Mato Grosso. It was intended to confirm its transitional characteristic and to detect possible perturbation due to fragmentation. The trial had 25 (20 x 20 m) permanent plots, where all individuals over 15 cm gbh were assessed. A total of 36 families, 81 genera and 113 species were found in the area with 1555 ind.ha-1 plant density. The largest family was Leguminosae with 14 species. The most frequent species were: Cecropia sciadophylla, Cecropia sp., Bellucia grossularioides e Vismia guianensis. Shannon (H') diversity index reached 3.55 nats.ind-1, considered high for transitional forests. Pielou's evenness was 0.75, suggesting high dominance of few species. In a decreasing ranking of VI (%) the most frequent species were: Cecropia sp., Bellucia grossularioides, Qualea ingens, Cecropia sciadophylla, Vismia guianensis, Miconia prasina, Trattinickia burserifolia, Unonopsis guatterioides and Schefflera vinosa. The Amazon and Cerrado mixed floristic composition confirms the fragment as transitional and the abundance of pioneer species suggests disturbances caused by fragmentation.

Abstract This paper deals with studies of beetles population survey in Eucalyptus camaldulensis plantation. The experiment was carried out at the Lindóia Farm, in the municipal district of Campo Verde, State of Mato Grosso. Three stands of Eucalyptus camaldulensis were sampled with the use of ethanol trap in each stand. 1,215 individuals were colleted and, distributed in six families, 23 genus and 45 species. Scolytidae contributed with 71,11% and 54,73% of the number of species and individuals, respectively. Five species were constant, very abundant, dominant and presented the most population peaks in the drought months in the studied area.

Resumo Levantamentos populacionais de coleópteros foram realizados em três talhões de Eucalyptus camaldulensis, de junho de 1996 a maio de 1997, no município de Campo Verde, Mato Grosso, com uma armadilha etanólica por talhão. Foram coletados 1.215 indivíduos, de seis famílias, 23 gêneros e 45 espécies. Scolytidae teve 71,11% e 54,73% do número de espécies e indivíduos, respectivamente. Cinco espécies foram constantes, muito abundantes e dominantes com a maioria dos picos populacionais nos meses considerados secos na área do estudo.

A ocorrência de Sinoxylon conigerum Gerstäcker é registrada pela primeira vez no Brasil em madeira de teca (Tectona grandis L.f.), mangueira (Mangifera indica L.) e gonçaleiro (Astronium fraxinifolium Schott), em Cuiabá e Várzea Grande, MT.

This is the first register of Sinoxylon conigerum attacking timber of teak (Tectona grandis L.f.), mango tree (Mangifera indica L.) and (Astronium fraxinifolium Schott) in the municipalities of Cuiabá and Várzea Grande, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil.

RESUMO Realizou-se um levantamento populacional de espécies da família Scolytidae em plantios de Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. Dehnh. Dehnh., Eucalyptus citriodora Hook. f., Eucalyptus pellita F. Muell. e Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake, com auxílio de armadilhas etanólicas, modelo escolitídeoCuritiba, no município de Cuiabá, estado de Mato Grosso, de março de 1998 a fevereiro de 1999. Foram utilizadas 24 armadilhas, sendo seis por talhão/espécie de Eucalyptus. As coletas foram quinzenais e divididas em dois períodos: seco (maio-outubro) e chuva (novembro-abril). Foram coletados um total de 19.153 indivíduos, distribuídos em 11 gêneros e 42 espécies. Nos períodos seco e chuvoso foram coletados 9.865 e 9.288 indivíduos respectivamente. Nos talhões de Eucalyptus pellita e de Eucalyptus urophylla, foram coletadas as maiores quantidades de indivíduos em ambos os períodos analisados. Cryptocarenus diademantus Eggers, 1937; Cryptocarenus seriatus Eggers, 1933; Cryptocarenus heveae (Hagedorni, 1912); Hypothenemus obscurus (Fabricius, 1801) e Xyleborus spinosulus (Schedl, 1934) foram, quantitativamente, as espécies mais importantes nos plantios das quatro espécies de Eucalyptus.

ABSTRACT A survey of Scolytidae population of species of Scolytidae family was made in plantations of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh, Eucalyptus citriodora Hook. f., Eucalyptus pellita F. Muell. and Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake, located at Cuiabá city in Mato Grosso state from march 1998 to february 1999, with aid of ethanol traps model “escolitídeo-Curitiba”. The were used 24 traps, six per Eucalyptus plot/specie. Collection was made every 15 days and divided in two periods: drought (may - October) and rRainy Season (november - april). There were collected a total of 19.153 individuals, distributed in 11 genera and 42 species. In the dry and rain periods there were collected 9.865 and 9.288 individuals, respectively. In plantations of Eucalyptus pellita and Eucalyptus urophylla were collected the largest amount of individuals, in both analyzed periods. Cryptocarenus diademantus Eggers, 1937; Cryptocarenus seriatus Eggers, 1933; Cryptocarenus heveae (Hagedorni, 1912); Hypothenemus obscurus (Fabricius, 1801) and Xyleborus spinosulus (Schedl, 1934) were in number, the most important in plantations of the four species of Eucalyptus.
